The «Cité du Cheval »
Tarascon Equestrian Art

Between the Alpilles and the "Montagnette", lays Tarascon, small town of the Provence built on the banks of the Rhone River.

Its feudal fortress, its royal abbey, its Consul mansion and its numerous chapels and cloisters, its Italian style baroque theatre and its ancient military base are all reminiscent of the glorious past of Tarascon. Its beautifully restored town houses, its pebbled streets... show the richness of its present.

Tarascon has a rich cultural heritage that comes from the feudal age. It is also known for its local traditions and cultural events linked to the "Tarasque", a legendary animal half-dragon, half-fish, and to Tartarin, a well known french literary figure.

With the recent opening of the "Cité du Cheval", an equestrian school, Tarascon is also today the city of equestrian arts.

The "Cité du Cheval" was opened on the grounds of the ancient military base. When the military left this base which had hosted cavalry regiments for many decades, it was naturally chosen to host this unique European school.

The "Cité du Cheval" organises events all year round, such as : horse-ball, dressage, Doma Vaquera or horse shows.
